In Loving Memory of Brian O’Rourk

Chesterton Academy of Notre Dame families and friends,

A dead thing can go with the stream, but only a living thing can go against it.
— G.K. Chesterton

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Brian O’Rourk. Brian was one of our founding families, serving on the Chesterton Academy of Notre Dame Board since its inception in 2019. Brian’s leadership is present in all elements of the school. As the Athletic Director and Lacrosse Coach, he developed a sports program with the goal of providing a full high school experience for all students. His desire and persistence for our long-term success resulted in the securing of a new campus location that will provide for decades to come. His focus on the development of a school culture that allows each student to be Christ to one another and a beacon of light in the world was primary and can be summarized by one of his often-used GK Chesterton quotes -   'A dead thing can go with the stream, but only a living thing can go against it.’

Brian’s passion and commitment to student development in accordance with the three pillars of a Chesterton Academy – Intellectual, Spiritual, Character - will inspire the Board, Administration and Faculty for many years to come. His impact on our Chesterton Academy Community, as well as the greater Catholic community throughout the Spokane Diocese, cannot be overstated. His desire to provide for his own children’s spiritual, intellectual and athletic development is why the Chesterton Academy of Notre Dame is a success.

May the Divine Assistance remain always with us. And may the souls of the faithful departed through the Mercy of God, rest in peace, Amen!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have mercy on us. Immaculate heart of Mary, pray for us. St. Joseph, pray for us.
